29 May Phillips To Bring Knowledge on Living Healthy with Diabetes To Clarkton, NC Community
Maxine Phillips McKoy, a Type 2 Diabetes Accountability Coach and a LIVE Ambassador for the American Diabetes Association, will be the keynote speaker for True Vine Holiness Church Diabetes Workshop “Living Healthy With Diabetes.” Thousands have heard Maxine’s story on how she was able to reverse her Type 2 Diabetes. Her account of living beyond diabetes has sparked the interest of medical practitioners across the state.
“I consider it a privilege to share with Clarkton and the surrounding communities on how I changed my health status and eliminated the need for diabetes medication,” said Phillips. “Helping others understand that making one lifestyle change at a time helped me and I know it can help them as well.”
The event will be held on Saturday, June 2 from 10 a.m. to 12:00 noon at True Vine Holiness Church Fellowship Hall (1503 Harrelson Road, Clarkton, NC). Seminar topics include diabetes survival skills and self-care, caregiver support, making lifestyle changes that will last, and, one of the most important, proper foot care for people with diabetes.
Phillips’ biggest proponent of managing diabetes has been journaling her experience. She advocates journaling, recognizing it as a problem-solving tool and very therapeutic, which could be an asset for people who are struggling with the day-to-day battles of managing diabetes. As the author of “TRANSFORMATION: WRITE + SHARE+ LIVE!” a journal and guidebook in which she uses inspiring prompts to propel individuals to write each day. Phillips has appeared on Tar Heel Talk and WRAL television shows and featured in the City Insight and Sanofi Diabetes digital magazines where she shared her story on living well beyond diabetes. She is a Life and Career coach and also serves as a Type 2 diabetes accountability coach that results in her clients reducing or eliminating the need for diabetes medications.
Maxine does more than talk the talk; she walks the walk! Currently, she serves as the captain for Team Phillips who participated in the American Diabetes Association Family and Friends division of the annual Step Out And Walk To Stop Diabetes for the past seven years. Team Phillips began as a way to honor Maxine’s late husband Greg who died in 2010 from complications associated with diabetes. Team Phillips has collected over $35,000 in donations to help with advocating for diabetes. They received several top fundraiser family/friends team awards and Maxine was awarded the Sanofi Give award in 2012 from the American Diabetes Association for her leadership, dedication, and commitment. She is also the team lead for the Raleigh Diabetes Group in Raleigh, North Carolina who supports those living with diabetes and their caretakers.
“When I say, ‘I have diabetes, but diabetes does not have me!’ it is because I decided to take control of my diabetes and making healthy lifestyle choices and it has been worth it!” expressed Phillips. “I want those diagnosed with pre-diabetes or living with diabetes to take the pledge to make one lifestyle change at a time, so together we can live a healthy life.”
Not only is Phillips a speaker and author, but also a job search and performance strategist, life and career coach, consultant, mentor, and a holistic health advocate.
